Troubleshooting: WiFi Ranger Not Connecting to Cellular

If your WiFi Ranger is not connecting to cellular data, follow these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check the Control Panel:

    • Connect to the WiFi Ranger's SSID and access the webUI at mywifiranger.com.
    • If the Control Panel shows "Using Cellular Data" under the Cellular heading, the system is already connected to cellular. If you still can't access the internet, escalate to Tier 2 support.
  2. Verify Modem Detection and Configuration:

    • If not connected to cellular, go to the 'Setup' tab.
    • Ensure the 'Enabled' box is checked on the Cellular line that shows a 'Detected Modem'.
    • Click the gear icon on that line.
    • If using Winegard FreedomGO data, the data plan should read "Winegard FreedomGO - AT&T".
    • For other carriers, it will read "My Data Plan", and you'll need to enter the APN manually.
  3. Check Firmware Version (For FreedomGO Users):

  4. Attempt Cellular Connection:

    • Go to the 'Main' tab, under the Cellular heading make sure the correct cellular connector is selected in the drop down and click 'Connect'.
    • If the system fails to connect, go back to the setup tab. Click the 'gear' icon for the correct cellular line and click 'Forget Cellular Device' then reboot the system. When it powers back on try connecting to cellular.
    • If the system fails to connect again, go to the setup tab. Click the 'gear' icon for the cellular line and click 'Clear SIM Details' then reboot the system. When it powers back on try connecting to cellular.
    • If you are still unable to connect, submit a support ticket to Winegard Customer Support for additional assistance.

Additional Considerations for Dual Router Systems:

  • If the WFRControl config shows as "Currently Not Connected", the system might be hooked up incorrectly.
  • Refer to the diagrams in the Converge manual to ensure the ethernet cable is connected to the correct port on the indoor router.

Important Notes:

  • The initial data plan sign-up for FreedomGO must be done through the WiFi Ranger system and requires internet access. Ensure the WiFi Ranger is connected to a local wireless network before proceeding. WiFi Ranger: Purchasing FreedomGO Data Plans for the First Time
