WiFi Ranger: Purchasing FreedomGO Data Plans for the First Time

This guide walks you through purchasing a data plan for your WiFi Ranger mobile hotspot, ensuring you stay connected on the go.

Before You Begin:

  • Ensure your WiFi Ranger is powered on.

  • You will need internet access to purchase a data plan for your WiFi Ranger. While you can connect to the WiFi Ranger's own network (created by the device itself), this initial setup requires an internet connection to complete the data plan purchase process.

Steps:

  1. Connect and Access Control Panel: On your device (phone, laptop, etc.), open the WiFi settings and connect to the network name (SSID) broadcasted by your WiFi Ranger (usually something like "Pvt.WFR.*"). Once connected, open a web browser on your device and navigate to "mywifiranger.com". This will open the WiFi Ranger control panel.

  1. Connect to the Internet: An internet connection is required to purchase a data plan for your WiFi Ranger. While you can initially connect to the WiFi Ranger's own network (SSID), this initial setup won't provide internet access. To complete the data plan purchase process, you'll need to connect your WiFi Ranger to a stable internet source, such as campground or local WiFi network. Navigate to the "Main" tab of the WiFi Ranger control panel and locate the WiFi settings. Choose and connect to the desired local WiFi network.

  1. Cellular Settings: Select the "Setup" tab and look for the "Cellular - Built In" option. Click the gear icon next to it. In some cases, you might need to click the gear icon for "WFRControl" to see the "Cellular - Built In" option. Then, verify that the "Data Plan" dropdown menu is set to "Winegard FreedomGO".

  1. SIM Validation: Click the "Add Cellular Data" button. A pop-up window will appear to confirm that a valid SIM card is installed in your WiFi Ranger. Click "Continue" to proceed.

  1. User Account: You will be prompted to either sign in to an existing RV Halo account or register as a new user. Choose the appropriate option and follow the on-screen instructions.

  1. Device Registration (if prompted): If this is your first time using the WiFi Ranger with your RV Halo account, you might need to register the device. Follow any on-screen prompts to complete the registration process.

  1. Choose Your Plan: Select the data plan that best suits your needs from the available options displayed on the screen.

  1. Billing Information: Enter your shipping and payment information. A shipping address is required to calculate any applicable sales tax.

  1. Finalize Purchase: Review your order details and then click "Submit Payment" to complete the data plan purchase.

Additional Notes:

  • Recurring Payments: There's an option to "Enable Recurring Payments". If you select this, your account will be automatically charged for a new data plan when the current plan expires (after 30 days or data limit reached, whichever comes first).

  • RV Halo Pro Membership: You'll see an option to "Sign up and Save" with an RV Halo Pro Membership. This membership offers a 10% discount on data plans. However, enabling this option will result in a separate $99.99 annual membership fee being charged. Check RV Halo > Account > Membership for more details on the benefits of an RV Halo Pro Membership and to see if it's right for you.

By following these steps, you should be able to purchase a data plan and enjoy cellular internet connectivity on your WiFi Ranger mobile hotspot.
