how to factory reset wifi ranger

WiFi Ranger: Performing a Factory Reset

A factory reset restores your WiFi Ranger to its original settings, erasing all custom configurations and saved passwords. This can be helpful if you're experiencing connectivity issues or want to start fresh with your device.

Important Note: Performing a factory reset will erase all your settings, including WiFi passwords, cellular configurations (if applicable), and any custom network names you've set up.

Reset Methods:

There are two main methods for resetting your WiFi Ranger:

Method 1: Using the Control Panel (Preferred)

  1. Connect to WiFi Ranger: Using a laptop, tablet, or smartphone, connect to the temporary WiFi network created by your WiFi Ranger. Look for a network name that starts with "Pvt. WiFiRanger_Model XXXX" (replace "Model" with your specific model and "XXXX" with the last 4 digits of the device's ID number).
  2. Access Control Panel: Open a web browser and navigate to either http://mywifiranger.com/ or http://10.1AB.CD.1:8080/ (replace "ABCD" with the last four digits of your device's ID number) to access the WiFi Ranger's control panel.
  3. Locate Reset Option: Under the Setup tab, select the "Reset" button.
  4. Confirm Reset: Click the reset button and confirm the prompt (if prompted). The WiFi Ranger will begin the reset process. This might take a few minutes.
  5. Reboot After Reset: Once the factory reset is complete, the WiFi Ranger will prompt you to reboot the system. Click the "Reboot" button to initiate the reboot process. The WiFi Ranger will take a few minutes to restart with the factory settings.

Method 2: Power Cycle Reset (Only if Control Panel is inaccessible)

  1. Unplug or Switch Off power to the WiFi Ranger: Locate your WiFi Ranger's power source and disconnect or turn it off. Wait for 5 seconds.
  2. Power On (wait 2 minutes 30 seconds): Reconnect the power source or turn the WiFi Ranger back on. Leave it powered on for exactly 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
  3. Power Off (wait 5 seconds): After 2 minutes and 30 seconds, disconnect the power source again or switch it off. Wait for another 5 seconds.
  4. Power On (wait 3 minutes 30 seconds): Reconnect the power source or turn the WiFi Ranger back on. This time, leave it powered on for 3 minutes and 30 seconds.
  5. Power Off (wait 5 seconds): After 3 minutes and 30 seconds, disconnect the power source again or switch it off once more. Wait for 5 seconds.
  6. Power On (wait 3 minutes 30 seconds): Reconnect the power source or turn the WiFi Ranger on for a final time. In this cycle, leave it powered on for 3 minutes and 30 seconds.
  7. Power Off (wait 5 seconds): After the final 3 minutes and 30 seconds, disconnect the power source or switch the WiFi Ranger off again. Wait for 5 seconds.
  8. Power On (wait 3 minutes): Reconnect the power source or power on the WiFi Ranger one last time. This time, leave it on for 3 minutes.
  9. Reset Initiated: After 3 minutes, the WiFi Ranger will automatically initiate a factory reset. This might take several minutes to complete.

After the Reset:

  • The WiFi Ranger will reboot with factory settings.
  • You will need to reconfigure all settings, including WiFi connections, cellular data (if applicable), and any custom network names.
  • Refer to your WiFi Ranger user manual or the knowledge base for instructions on setting up your device after a reset.

Additional Notes:

  • If you're unsure about which reset method to use, start with the Control Panel method (Method 1).
  • If you encounter any issues during the reset process, submit a Support Ticket or contact Winegard Customer Support for additional assistance.
