Connecting Your Winegard to Cellular Data

Connecting Your Winegard to Cellular Data

The Winegard Connect and Gateway offers cellular connectivity options (4G or 5G) for internet access on the go. This article will guide you through connecting your Winegard to a cellular network.

Prerequisites:

  • A compatible SIM card from a supported cellular provider with coverage in your area. (Check with your carrier for compatible SIM card types - standard mini SIM (2FF) is the required size).
  • A data plan activated on the SIM card (purchased from your cellular provider).
  • Supported providers include: AT&T, Verizon, & T-Mobile (Verizon only supported on 4G models at this time).

What you'll need:

  • Your WiFi enabled device (laptop, smartphone, tablet)
  • Your Winegard Gateway's SSID (network name) and password (found on the owner's manual or a sticker on the device itself)
  • Compatible SIM card

Steps:

  1. Power off your Winegard.
  2. Locate the SIM card slot. This might be a slot on the side of the or behind a removable panel. Refer to your Winegard user manual for the exact location.
  3. Insert the SIM card into the tray with the gold contacts facing down. Ensure the SIM card is securely seated in the correct orientation.
  4. Power on your Winegard.
  5. Connect your device to the Winegard WiFi network. (Refer to the Winegard user manual for WiFi network name and password if needed).
  6. Open a web browser on your device.
  7. In the address bar, type: 10.11.12.1 and press Enter. This will open the Winegard Gateway admin panel.
  8. Login using the default credentials:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: admin (It's recommended to change this password later for security reasons)
  9. Select "Cellular" as the internet access option.
  10. The Winegard should automatically detect the cellular network from the inserted SIM card.
  11. The "Internet Status" field should display "Connected to Cellular 'Carrier Data Plan'" after a successful connection (may take a few minutes).

Troubleshooting:

  • If the Winegard fails to connect, ensure the SIM card is inserted correctly, is compatible with your cellular provider, and you are using supported cellular provider.
  • Verify you have an active data plan on the SIM card.
  • Reboot your Winegard and try again.
  • If you're still having trouble, click here to submit a support ticket.

Additional Notes:

  • Winegard offers its own "Winegard FreedomGO" data plans, or you can use a data plan from your preferred cellular provider with a compatible SIM card.

By following these steps, you should be able to connect your Winegard to a cellular network and enjoy mobile internet access.
